For many it is at the heart of many of the problems in the middle east and it continues to be the Achilles heel of the Western world. Access to increasingly supplies of oil continue to dominate the thoughts of many leaders around the globe.

But the question is at what cost? Death tolls continue to rise daily in the Arabian world, while recently off the coast of the USA the environmental impact of the quest for oil was all to easy to see with huge volumes of the stuff being dispersed into the Gulf of Mexico.

While oil is needed for a variety of things, including significant industrial use, it is cars that remain the real driving force behind demand. Despite significant investment in local transit by countries around the world, in the western world lie no where else on the planet the convenience of cars carries all before it. Until this addiction to the auto mobile is broken there will no end to the demand for oil.

For many parents it is a dream to be able to send there children through private education, however in a deepening recession that dream will never come true for most. However, not only are those with aspirations struggling, but parents who has achieved the dream are now finding themselves in a real pickle.

The question they are currently asking themselves is do the turn to online loans to continue to live their dream, or do the accept defeat and move there children out of private education and back into the state system.

The answer is a little of both with fee paying schools admitting that intakes continue to drop as more belt tightening goes on, while for others parent are postponing holidays or making other cuts to spending in the hope of continuing to keep there children in the school of there choice.

The global recession has continued to hit countries across the globe with Greece being the latest country to require a bailout. In a country with over 11 million people the problem the Greeks face raising revenue is that a very small proportion of the population pay higher rate tax due to an economy that is built predominantly on a cash economy.

This latest bailout is a real set back to the EU which is under real pressure with Ireland, Portugal and Spain also struggling under the weight of the financial crises.

The global impact of the recession can be seen in New Zealand also where Finance Minister Bill English declared at least we are not Greece. While this is undoubtedly true at least Greece has the financial power of the EU behind it. We are not sure who will bail New Zealand out should they ever have need of one.
